This is a simple explanation for those who do not know. The most common standard size pallet is the 48”x40” 4way pallet. What this translates to is, 48” length of 2x4s’ and 40” width of deck boards. There are a few variances of this common size pallet. The “4way” means it can be entered from four different directions. These pallets typically have 7 top boards and 5 bottom boards that are 40 x .5 x 3.5.
- 48x40 #1 4way (or grade A)
- 48x40 #1 GMA 4way (or grade AA) Same as above, only the end boards on the top and bottom are 6” wide.
- 48x40 #2 4way (or grade B) These have been repaired using pieces of 2x4s alongside of the existing 2x4s that have been damaged.
- 48x40 Block Pallet These use blocks of wood instead of 2x4s to hold all the boards together
- 48x48
- 42x42
- 36x36
- 30x30
These sizes are most common because they fit into trailers well for shipping. We keep these in stock and are more readily available than custom size pallets.
The Customs
We offer building specific size pallets for your project needs. The lead time on custom orders take a little bit longer because we have cut material down when you put your order in. We still excel here because once we start working with a client, we begin to set aside the materials most often needed to construct their particular custom pallet.
Heat treated pallets
Heat treating pallets is for when you need to ship internationally. We do offer heat treating at an additional cost. It will be based on the size and quantity that you need processed. Our pallets comply with ISPM-15 standards and regulations. There would be additional time needed for processing.
Recycling Vs. New
When buying pallets, there are advantages to new and recycled. Depending on your needs, we will help you make the best decision for your organization. We are in the recycling business and our tendencies lead toward recycling. We understand if you need a new clean pallet and will accommodate.
New pallets offer the utmost cleanliness as you would be the first user. We do make new pallets for those in the food, beverage, or medical industries. For most others, a used pallet can do the same work and still be as clean as a newly built pallet. We receive most of our pallets from grocers in our area, so they are often single use pallets and are very clean when they come across our tables.
Our staff is well trained in repairing pallets and we have many checks before pallets are sent back into circulation. A used pallet can usually end up being in better condition than when it was originally built. This is always the case with # 2 pallets, they have additional 2x4s added to them when repaired, having added more support to the structure of the pallet. They are not always the prettiest pallet, but they more than make up for it by their durability.
